The Cincinnati State Independent Youth Initiative (IYI) Team places value in partnering with students who have had some form of experience with the foster care system who have identified Cincinnati State as their school of choice. We are committed to using a hands-on approach to create and build a road map to achieving academic success at Cincinnati State.

In efforts to retain our students, we have created a streamlined approach to the initial services that students will receive once they have identified Cincinnati State as their school of choice. These services include: “Get There” sessions through admissions, financial aid assistance, pre-compass boot camp classes, Surge advising sessions, registration assistance, and career counseling.
Strengthening partnerships between education, child welfare, and court systems is recognized as essential to improving the education and life outcomes of students impacted by foster care. This initiative was created from Cincinnati State’s Strategic Plan Goal #2 Expanding Our Outreach special population, Foster Youth.
